Connection settings

Never provider keys — only the unified freellmapi-… key from the gateway's Keys page.

Saving writes the values to .env. The key is never rendered back into the page, and the whole dashboard keeps working while the assistant is off.

Where to get the unified key

Four steps, once. No provider key ever enters this app.

  1. Start FreeLLMAPI. From the repo's vendor/freellmapi folder, create its .env with an ENCRYPTION_KEY, then run the gateway: docker compose up -d It serves the API and dashboard at http://localhost:3005.
  2. Add provider keys in its dashboard. Open http://localhost:3005/keys and add free keys such as Groq or Gemini. They are encrypted by FreeLLMAPI and stay there — this app never sees them.
  3. Copy the unified key. The same Keys page generates a key that starts with freellmapi-. That single key routes to every provider in your pool.
  4. Paste it above. Set the base URL to http://localhost:3005/v1, switch mode to live, save, and restart the dev server.
The assistant uses this key for tool-calling over the same skill surface as the pages. mock mode needs no gateway and answers deterministically from your local files.
